Pillow top mattresses (and Euro top mattresses too) provide a more cushioned top layer to lay on. The plush material adds additional padding above the central mattress layer (innerspring, latex, memory foam or a combination of more than one of these). Essentially, the pillow top name is intended to imply that it is like sleeping on a bed of pillows because of the softness and extra comfort the best pillow top mattress in 2017 provides.
For an individual who has many aches and pains, craves sleeping on something softer and who cannot fall asleep on a firm mattress, a pillow top mattress is a good option. The lighter feel on the body avoids the buildup of pressure points which prevents the body tossing and turning due to this issue and a better night’s sleep is achieved as a result.
The padding used inside the pillow top varies considerably from product to product. Fiber fill, latex, memory foam, regular foam, wool or cotton are just some of the often seen fillers used.
Two versions of the ultra-padded mattress are available: pillow top and euro top. The pillow top mattress looks separate to the main mattress whereas the euro top style looks more integrated. With either type, the goal is to provide the best comfort possible.
Pillow tops are usually either soft or medium firmness; non-pillow tops are either medium or firm.
What you need to know
The comfort level with pillow top is greater than with other types of mattress that lack the immediate cushioning that a pillow top provides.
Pillow tops that use memory foam in their filling achieve better back support than some other filler types. The foam molds to the shape of the body to provide improved spinal support while still delivering extra comfort at the same time. For back pain sufferers, memory foam is a good support option, but a spring coil support system is often even better.
Movement transfer is reduced when a pillow top uses a 2-inch memory foam layer for stability. Pillow tops with innerspring systems isolate movement well because often the top already takes away some of the motion, with the spring system removing much of the rest.
People who like to sleep on their side find that pillow tops are softer on their shoulders and hips. For individuals who’ve recently had hip replacement surgery or regular shoulder pain, a pillow top mattress could well be their salvation.
Pillow top mattresses using uneven fills provide an unpredictable sleeping surface.
More heat is often retained with a pillow top than a non-pillow top mattress.
When a pillow top uses either latex foam or memory foam, there may be a period of off-gassing until the foam has released all its gas.
More frequent rotation of the mattress from head to toe is required to ensure the pillow top stays even in its support.
The edges of pillow tops don’t offer the same level of support as the rest of the mattress. For couples with small children who like to climb into bed with them leaving little space on either side, this could be a concern.
When the filling is unevenly spread out within the pillow top, the level of support is inconsistent which is not suitable for frequent back pain sufferers.
For stomach sleepers, padded pillow tops allow the person to sink deeper which could put a strain on their neck or make natural breathing more difficult.
People over 220 pounds often find that they sink too far into a pillow top mattress.
There is less discernable bounce with a pillow top than with some other types of mattresses. It is possible this may make them less suitable for bedroom activities.
The extra padding increases the weight of a pillow top mattress by up to 20%.
Best Pillow Top Mattresses in 2016 & 2017
*5 Star Rating: this is based on the percentage of consumers who rate the mattress 10/10.
Features & Benefits
Pillow top mattresses offer greater padding at the top layer. Rather than buying a mattress topper to add extra comfort and softness, a pillow top does this integral with the mattresses.
Side sleepers often benefit the most from the added cushioning which takes the pressure off their arm, hips, and shoulders. Putting all their body’s weight on one side is often too much emphasis on one spot for a spring mattress, but a mattress that includes both a pillow top and a spring support beneath offers softness for side sleepers and support too.
The firmness level of a pillow top is usually either soft or medium which will suit sleepers who dislike firm mattresses and find them impossible to get a good night’s sleep on.
Our 3 Best Pillow Top Mattresses
Zinus Sleep Master Ultima® Comfort 10 Inch Pillow Top Spring Mattress Review
The Sleep Master Ultima® Comfort 10 Inch Pillow Top Spring Mattress uses the iCoil spring system to eliminate motion transfer and comfort foam to deliver extreme satisfaction.
The mattress is available in Twin, Full, Short Queen, Queen, and King sizes. The product is available in 8-inch, 10-inch, 12-inch, and 13-inch mattress thicknesses (we review the 10-inch version here).
The base of this product is the iCoil Pocketed spring system with the 10-inch version having a depth of 7.5-inches. Each coil is individually wrapped and supports its section of the mattress independent of the other coils. Proper spinal alignment is maintained due to the ability of the springs to adjust appropriately to the contours of the body and weight on each spring.
Second-by-second adjustments to the height of each spring occur automatically depending on the weight placed on each coil. Due to the structure of the iCoil system, motion transfer is minimized because only the coils under the person moving around adjust in height up or down, rather than the complete support system across the entirety of the mattress. The depth of the iCoil system varies from 5-inches to 8.5-inches depending on the model selected.
Pressure relieving comfort foam is used as a pillow top layer above the iCoil wrapped spring system with a depth of 0.5-inch to 4.5-inches. An additional high-density foam later is added with a 0.5 to 2-inch depth with the 10-inch, 12-inch and 13-inch models. All foam used is certified by CertiPUR-US to ensure it doesn’t use any harmful materials, and any chemical off-gassing is at a low, safe level.
A Jacquard fabric is used in the quilted cover that’s filled with both fiber fill and foam for added comfort.
The level of support is medium to firm. The mattress does not use memory foam, so it doesn’t feel like one sinks into it and it doesn’t create the feeling of “sleeping on a cloud.” Given the number of layers including the iCoil spring system, this mattress can support over 500-pounds in combined weight between both partners. However, the heavier the sleepers, the sooner one may begin to feel a dip in the center of the mattress following extended use.
The Sleep Master Ultima® Comfort Pillow Top Spring Mattress is packed in a tall box with the item compressed and rolled up. It needs to be removed, laid out flat and given time to expand. There will be a certain amount of off-gassing due to the CertiPUR-US certified foam used in one of the mattress layers. The chemical odor typically passes within a few days, and the bedroom will need to be aired out during this time to speed up the release of the vapor. At least 48 hours is necessary to expand the foam to its standard dimensions following delivery.
The product comes with a 10-year limited warranty. The warranty only covers issues that are detectable with the naked eye.
Dreamfoam Bedding Ultimate Dreams Pillow Top Mattress Review
The Dreamfoam Bedding Ultimate Dreams Crazy Quilt Pillow Top Mattress is a US made Tri-Zone foam core mattress with a softer feel.
The mattress is available in Twin, Twin XL, Full, Full XL, Short Queen, King, and California King sizes.
The pillow top is a 3-inch layer of Tri-Zone foam that provides a soft to medium firmness. The foam will contour the body yet it is not memory foam, so one doesn’t sink into it. The 8-inch layer using a 1.5-pound high-density poly foam provides a medium firm base for ample back support to a greater degree than the plush top achieves.
The Tri-Zone foam is particularly effective at minimizing motion transfer between two people sleeping together. Perhaps it is not as effective as an isolated coil spring system, but it’s still pretty effective overall.
The feeling when lying on the mattress is not the same as with a spring-based mattress, nor does it have the memory foam feel either. The base foam provides a firm base, but the softer pillow top helps sleepers sink down into the top layer quite deeply.
For heavier individuals or couples, there could be too much sinking into the foam for their liking; it really depends on personal preferences and requirements. Back sleepers could also find the sinking effect doesn’t offer enough spinal support for them, but for side sleepers, this mattress is likely to be extremely satisfactory.
It is also worth noting that the support at the sides and corners of this mattress is pretty weak, so anyone needing to share the mattress with growing children who all wish to pile into the bed in the early morning might find the sides of the mattress a bit of a challenge.
The foam filling meets the CertiPUR-US certification standard for materials used during manufacturer and the amount of off-gassing for indoor use at a safe level for humans.
It is possible to use this mattress in a motor home, as well as a standard bedroom.
Made in the USA, the product is covered by a 90-day trial period and a 5-year limited warranty.
Signature Sleep Signature 13-Inch Pillow Top Mattress Review
The Signature Sleep Signature 13-Inch Independently-Encased Coil Mattress is a plush foam pillow top product with particular support for the hips and lower back.
The mattress is available in Full, Queen, and King sizes only.
The main support provided with this mattress is the coil springs which are individually encased to provide a responsive, isolated base for sleepers. The separation of each coil prevents subsequent entanglement and ensures that only springs right below where the sleeper is sitting or lying down will be depressed in response to the weight being shouldered. As a result, motion transfer is considerably minimized because springs on the other side of the bed stay at their original default level, so a second person doesn’t feel it when their partner gets up early or comes to bed late.
The pillow top is a 12 ILD foam one with a 1-inch Tri-Zone layer that dries faster, limits the amount of moisture collected, and is fairly breathable. The fabric used on the surface of the pillow top is a rayon-derived bamboo jacquard one that helps the top breathe easier and stay odor-free. A high-density foam layer provides a good deal of support below the softer pillow top.
The firmness level is medium to firm due to the Tri-Zone layer and the coil spring base layer. The pillow top just makes the mattress feel softer at the top, but is not indicative of the overall firmness experienced. As such, this mattress is likely to be comfortable for stomach, back and side sleepers, plus for anyone with back issues too.
The foam used passes the CertiPUR-US certification requiring manufacturers to use only approved materials, not use TCEP, TDCPP or PDBE flame retardants, lead, mercury, heavy metals or ozone depleters, and keep emissions under a regulated level for safe use in the home. The 16 CFR 1633 Federal Flammability Standard has been adhered to as well.
Regular sheets typically will fit this mattress, but look for deep pocketed sheets for the best fit due to the extra height from the pillow top.
Each mattress is boxed up, compressed down and rolled up in a vacuum sealed package. After unboxing and unrolling the mattress, it needs to be allowed to sit for 48-72 hours to expand completely. Off-gassing may be noticeable due to the foam used. The bedroom needs to be ventilated throughout this initial period until the gas has dissipated. In most cases, the smell is barely noticeable.
There is a 1-year limited warranty provided with the product. The length of the warranty is a bit disappointing.

What is a Pillow Top Mattress?
A pillow top mattress has a top layer that is especially soft to make laying on the mattresses as comfortable as possible. The plush top surface filled with one or more types of filling like fiber fill, memory foam, regular foam, and latex, to name a few, makes the use of a fitted sheet almost redundant.
What makes Pillow Top Mattresses different?
Pillow top mattresses on the firmness scale are usually either soft or medium firm, unlike other types of mattresses which tend to be either medium or pretty firm. The additional puffy softness is the main attractive quality over another type of mattress. Side sleepers who put most of their body weight on their shoulders and hips find pillow top mattresses the most beneficial for reliving pain while they try to sleep.
Things to consider
It is a true fact that the best mattress is the most suitable one for you. The best pillow top mattress reviews 2016 gives you the latest information on the available products.
While a soft or medium firmness for a mattress isn’t always ideal for premium back or neck support, each person’s requirements are different. You may find that a soft or medium pillow top mattress is exactly what you need. Accordingly, below we run down the things to consider when looking at pillow top mattress products:
A pillow top mattress includes an extra cushioned layer that sits above the primary mattress. With the padding used inside the pillow top, the density adds more support beyond what is provided by the mattress itself. The main benefit of pillow tops is the softness experienced when lying on top of them which can alleviate pressure points that is the main cause of tossing and turning during sleep.
Commonly, coil springs are used in an individually packed design to provide a core support level that is medium to firm. Quite often, a memory foam or other softer layer is placed above the coil spring layer to provide a softer laying experience. The combination provides sufficient support for the spine while still delivering cushioned comfort for people with sensitive backs. Movement isolation is usually pretty good with spring systems used with pillow top mattresses. The frame and tacking for these types of mattresses are top notch too.
It is always best to choose a mattress that is larger than one might expect to need because feeling cramped is never good when trying to go to sleep at night. Many models come in California King or King sizes, with Queen sizes offered across many brands. For separate beds, Twin models are sometimes available from manufacturers that cover a wider range of bed sizes.
The softness starts right away for new buyers of a pillow top mattress. The pain relief and ability to get a better night’s sleep – especially for people who suffer from joint or back pain regularly – is hugely beneficial.
The comfort doesn’t always last as long as one might expect though. A few years would be a good result, but the padding can also stop being as effective within six months in a few cases.
An issue with pillow top sagging or being compressed down happens within 3 years of purchase up to 30% of the time. Owners of other mattresses only notice a mattress depression problem slightly more than 15% of the time. The issue of whether this is of concern depends on how often you plan to replace your mattress with a new one.
Surprisingly, the compression issue doesn’t seem to correlate to the weight of the people using the mattress. Just as many 150-pound sleepers have the same issue as 250-pound sleepers do. A little under 50% of buyers discover that their pillow top will begin to sag within 3-years, with the rest of owners experiencing the issue with their mattress over 3-5 years or 5-10 years.
The heat level on pillow top mattresses, especially ones that use memory foam, are twice as likely to be a problem while sleeping than with non-pillow top mattresses. The case of the pillow top trapping heat to an uncomfortable level is evident with fewer than 10% of buyers. This compares to fewer than 5% of owners of non-pillow top mattresses.
Off-gassing is an issue with foam mattresses where some of the gas used in the production of the mattress is released when it is unpacked. The packaging used can also sometimes create an odor.
How detectable the odor is in the bedroom with the mattress unpacked varies from product to product. The chemical smell may only last a few hours, a handful of days, or longer. In almost all cases, the odor disappears after a given period of time. The problem occurs less than 10% of the time with pillow top mattresses and less frequently with non-pillow tops.
The pain relief from sleeping on a pillow top mattress is experienced by about one fifth of the people who buy one. The pain reduction is typically noticed in the shoulders, back and hips. With the gradual aging of the pillow top mattress and eventual sagging and compressed areas, the pain benefits become less evident over time.
Pillow tops that use memory foam are found to provide improved pain relief over pillow tops that don’t use memory foam. However, with spring pillow top mattresses that also have a layer of memory foam, the benefits are just as good.
One of the problems with pillow top mattresses is a loss of integrity in the foam or the indentation becoming permanent. A dip that never goes away is a constant pain once it appears and interferes with getting a good night’s rest. In the end, with either an indentation or a foam integrity problem, the product’s warranty comes in very handy. The warranty for a mattress is usually multi-year and the longer the better is the general rule.
Do bear in mind that there is sometimes a cost to packaging up a mattress and shipping it back. The mattress is much heavier when uncompressed than when it arrives and so one needs to verify whether the return shipping is covered under the warranty.

Pillow Top Mattress Reviews
Sleep Innovations Alden 14-inch Memory Foam Mattress Review
The Sleep Innovations Alden 14-inch Memory Foam Mattress is a luxurious product made in the United States and backed by a generous 20-year limited warranty.
The mattress is available in Twin, Full, Queen, King, and California King sizes.
For sleepers who enjoy a soft to medium firmness level, the Alden is likely to be a people pleaser. However, for lower back pain sufferers and other people who need a firmer mattress to get to sleep, this model may be just too soft. With side sleepers, the relief on their neck and shoulders will be noticeable making this a good choice for them.
The mattress has a TriComfort design with a 2.5-inch top layer of SureTemp memory form, a 2.5-inch middle layer of air channel foam designed to move warm air around efficiently, and a 9-inch supportive bottom layer.
The memory foam cradles the body well providing that sleeping-on-air experience. The difficulty with the use of memory form and comfort foam is the potential for heat buildup. The air channel design in the middle layer of comfort foam is much needed and helpful to keep the warmth down to an acceptable level. For people who need to sleep in a colder setting, a coil spring pillow top mattress might be a better choice, but for other people, this mattress with its cooler SureTemp top layer will work fine.
The product is intended for people whose weight is typical for their height. The pressure relief from the multi-layered foam mattress is acceptable and may help some back pain sufferers, but the softer feel won’t please everyone. Side sleepers are most likely to be happy with the softer pillow top and foam layers below it.
It is possible to flip the mattress over and use the other side to even out the usage over time. Swapping it top to bottom is another option to prevent depressions in specific places due to extended use.
Made in the USA. The limited warranty covers an impressive 20 years.
Serta Perfect Sleeper Edinburgh Super Pillow Top Mattress Review
The Serta Perfect Sleeper Edinburgh Super Pillow Top Mattress Hybrid Gel Innerspring is a product that was designed in conjunction with The Sleep Foundation to address common sleeping problems.
The mattress is available in Twin, Full, Full with Set Box Foundation, Queen, Queen with Set Box Foundation, King, and California King sizes.
The 1-inch Super Pillow Top layer (as Serta describe it) is comprised of pillo-fill, Serta Pillowsoft Foam, and FireBlocker Fiber. The combination delivers a softer, slightly springy, padded initial surface that feels plush while delivering a cushioned luxurious feeling.
The 2.5-inch Comfort XD foam is a soft layer and the Cool Twist Gel Memory foam adds a cooling memory foam layer that adapts to the body positioning while the person sleeps. The gel memory foam is one of the better types of foam for controlling temperature levels.
The 8.5-inch base layer uses a continuous coil design with an interconnected spring coil system to deliver a responsive foundational support. The interconnected nature of the system does mean that motion transfer is more likely to be transferred to other parts of the mattress, but while the coils remain strong, this isn’t noticed. A reinforced edge around the mattress from the innerspring design creates a sturdier frame too.
Serta worked with the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) to address five common sleep issues. The Serta Perfect Sleeper Edinburgh Super Pillow Top Mattress Hybrid Gel Innerspring model was their answer and the only official mattresses from the NSF. The five issues address in the design were: Lack of back support, poor temperature control (cold or hot), sag or roll off, motion transfer, and tossing & turning.
The foam is CertiPUR-US certified confirming only safe materials were used, it meets the 16 CFR Part 1633 Federal flammability requirements, and off-gassing is at safe, acceptable levels.
All the mattresses are built in the USA. A 10-year limited warranty is also provided.
DreamFoam Bedding Ultimate Dreams Pocketed Coil Pillow Top Mattress Review
The DreamFoam Bedding Ultimate Dreams Pocketed Coil Ultra Plush Pillow Top Mattress with Gel Memory Foam combines great support with a soft top.
The mattress is available in Twin, Full, Full XL, Short Queen, Queen, Queen, King, California King, and X-Long sizes. The X-Long size is rare to see with a big mattress brand.
The pillow top has a soft 2-inch layer of gel memory foam. Many pillow tops are only one inch in depth, so the 2-inch layer is pleasing here. The use of memory foam helps to sculpt the pillow top around the sleeper as they sink into it comfortably. Gel memory foam is used which is better for temperature management. The foam is CertiPUR-US certified to confirm it uses only appropriate materials with off-gassing at safe levels.
The 10-inch pocketed coil layer uses 750 individual coils in the Queen-size mattress (smaller sizes will have a smaller number of coils). The number of separate coils helps better isolate motion transfer as only the coils on or near the sleeper will take the strain, with coils elsewhere in the mattress remaining unaffected. The benefit of this is not being woken up when your partner comes to bed later than you do or rises earlier that you prefer.
A cotton cover is also provided which is breathable to help handle moisture build up.
The mattress and all parts used inside it are all made in the USA. A 90-day risk-free trial and a 10-year limited warranty are provided.
Classic Brands Mercer 12 Inch Hybrid Gel Memory Foam and Innerspring Mattress Review
The Classic Brands Mercer 12 Inch Hybrid Cool Gel Memory Foam and Innerspring Mattress has a plush soft top with a springy underbelly that really delivers.
The mattress is available in Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King sizes.
The pillow top is made from a 0.5-inch cool gel memory foam hybrid layer that delivers a comfortable, body-conforming feel while still managing heat better than standard foam. There are vents all along the edges of the pillow top and down the side of the mattress to allow heat to dispel.
Below the initial layer is three separate 0.25-inch comfort foam layers. The active separation of each layer helps to avoid heat building up which is one of the potential problems with foam used inside mattresses.
The final layer has a pocketed spring coil base which is excellent for minimizing motion transfer between couples. At the top of the spring coil base is a 0.75-inch comfort foam layer which acts to support the coils which are individually wrapped. All foam used with this model is CertiPUR-US certified to confirm that no inappropriate materials were used and the emission are at a safe level for home use.
The hybrid design of this mattress does its best to minimize heat buildup through its multi-layered design, while offering plush comfort at the top and medium to firm support from the coil spring base.
There is some off-gassing with this mattress due to the multi-layered foam used. Several days are required to let the gas dissipate and a day or more is needed for the foam to reform back to its original dimensions.
The quilted, knitted cover is attractively designed and protects the mattress from dust mites, germs, and other potential allergens.
The product comes with a 10-year limited warranty.
Sleep Innovations 12″ Skylar Gel Memory Foam Mattress Review
The Sleep Innovations 12″ Skylar Gel Memory Foam Mattress is comfortable and has had special attention paid to air venting to help keep heat levels neutral.
The mattress is available in Twin, Full, Queen, and King sizes.
Sleeping on this mattress is an all-foam affair with its three layers. The top layer is a 2.5-inch Gel memory foam that keeps cool. A 2.5-inch air channel foam layer provides plenty of heat ventilation and the 7-inch Support Plus foam foundational layer prevents motion transfer.
Special attention has been paid to heat levels, so anyone looking for a foam mattress that provides good support with a neutral temperature, this mattress should be a contender.
The mattress has a medium to firm feel to it. Both average size and larger people are fully supported with the Skylar model. Sufficient cushioned support is provided that both back and side sleepers will find this mattress suitable for their needs.
The quilted poly knit cover uses a weave that helps vent air and side panels are also present to make it even more breathable.
The mattress is made in the USA and comes with a lengthy 20-year limited warranty.
Textrade Inner Spring Pillow Top Mattress Review
The Textrade USA Inner Spring Pillow Top Mattress in A Box is steel reinforced with 1,000 individual springs to keep sleepers’ level while in deep REM sleep.
The mattress is available in Twin, Full, Queen, and King sizes.
The generous 3-inch pillow top has soft 20 Denier comfort foam and anti-microbial fibers to help whisk away bad odors and provide a soft laying experience.
The main layer is a deep innerspring type with 1,000 15-gauge coils made of tempered steel for the ultimate in bouncy firmness. Each coil has foam inside to eliminate noise and motion transfer.
A bed frame that is supported in the center is needed with this mattress. This is a value-based mattress that is affordable, but shouldn’t be expected to last as long as more expensive, better known brands. The level of support, especially for couples who weigh a generous amount, is unlikely to last 5-10 years. One should expect the mattress to have a life of 3-5 years, whereupon it will likely have less support or begin to sag in several places.
The Damask quilted cover provided uses a strong fabric that will protect the mattress from excessive wear.
The mattress is made in China.
Beautyrest Recharge Montano Plush Pillow Top Mattress Review
The Beautyrest Recharge Montano Plush Pillow Top Mattress combines gel foam, air foam, and pocketed coils for a restful sleeping experience.
The mattress is currently available in Queen and King sizes.
The quilt cover for the mattress uses a fiber fill, and two 1-inch layers of AirCool foam as a single padded solution.
The 2-inch pillow top layer uses comfort foam for a softer surface.
The upholstery layer has a 0.5-inch gel foam using the company’s GelTouch technology to keep the mattress cooler. The gel conforms to the sleepers’ shape and relieves pressure. A second, 0.5-inch layer of energy foam is provided directly under the gel foam.
An Aircool foam layer promotes support and moving air in a downward trajectory. Both the Aircool BeautyEdge foam casing and the AirCool Mesh board fabric assist with making this mattress cooler by venting heat out.
In the middle of the mattress is a deep layer of 800 pocketed coils (15.5-gauge) that serve to provide a responsive, flexible experience.
The energy foam base combined with a Triton foundation with PowerBeam bracing adds durability while cutting down motion transfer in the process.
All foam used in the mattress comes with the CertiPUR-US certification to confirm that only safe materials were used during manufacturing and that the off-gassing is at a safe level.
The product is designed and constructed in the USA. A 20-year limited warranty is provided.
Q: Are pillow top mattresses the same as euro top ones?
A: No. A pillow top one appears to be a separate top section of the mattress whereas a euro top style has a more integrated appearance.
Q: Will I get enough support with a pillow top mattress?
A: Each pillow top product is different. Some have coil springs and foam upper layers providing medium to firm support whereas other pillow tops are distinctly on the softer side. Check our pillow top mattress reviews to determine which type of pillow top mattress will suit your needs.
Q: Is there less motion transfer with a pillow top mattress?
A: A pillow top using a coil spring base provides isolated, responsive support in the part of the mattress that the person is currently sitting or lying on. Other parts of the mattress don’t adjust levels, so motion transfer is minimized.
Q: Is a coil spring pillow top better than a foam one?
A: The feeling is quite different when lying down on a spring mattress compared to a foam one. The foam usually feels less bouncy.
Q: Is a mattress cover important?
A: A cover is a useful addition and pillow top mattresses tend to come with a cover that uses breathable materials.
Q: Is a pillow top mattress reversible or flip-able?
A: It is sometimes possible to turn a mattress top to bottom, but a pillow top cannot usually be flipped over to use the other side.
Q: Is a gel foam better than standard foam?
A: A gel foam allows for individual cells to become liquid to dispel heat and adjust to the weight of the sleeper. Because of this, gel foam and gel memory foam tends to be a better option.
Q: Will a pillow top mattress be hot to sleep in?
A: The answer depends on the materials used for each layer and how breathable the foam and fabric is. In many cases, the foam has been ventilated with holes evenly distributed heat throughout the foam layer(s) to help air circulate better. Gel foam tends to keep cooler than standard foam.
